A simple And Powerful Mantra To Live By

Have you ever listened to Oprah’s SuperSoul Conversations podcast? It’s full of wisdom and interesting discussions, and aha!  moments. It works like therapy, seriously, specially if I have it on when I go for a walk. I feel inspired, empowered and calm after listening. It’s great for the mind and spirit, and I constantly find myself writing down snippets of wisdom they share.

Oprah talks to Don Miguel Ruiz, author of The four agreements on one episode – I haven’t read the book yet but I’d love to. And here’s four beautiful statements he shares that I always think about and try to live by:

Be impeccable with your words.

Don’t take anything personally.

Don’t make assumptions.

Always do your best.

A simple yet powerful mantra to live by, isn’t it! It certainly makes life much easier when you remember to shift perspectives and focus on those words. There have been countless times when I just assumed things in certain situations only to get myself unnecessarily upset and hurt. The quality of my relationships have improved so much since I decided I was not going to take anything personally and I was not going make any assumptions and just jump to conclusions. As simple as it sounds it really is only a matter of changing the way you look at things.

Do you have any mantras you live by? I’d love to know!

It is a very interesting mantra to live by, indeed. However, it sounds like a difficult one as well, especially the part of “not taking anything personally”…

You’re right, it’s easier said than done.. but whenever I face a situation when I need to reevaluate that I feel that it helps. At least in a way to convince myself that it’s not about me, it’s about the other person. I just think that in the past it was easy for me to take things personally and be disappointed, so I try to do that now for my own good. So basically I’m being selfish haha anyway, it doesn’t always work but it’s good to keep that in mind!
