I love analogies. I’d even go so far as to say I’m a sucker for analogies, so that must explain why I loved Garden State so much when I first watched it years ago. I’ve never watched it a second time and I’m afraid if I ever do I’ll fall out of love with it a little bit, so I’ll probably keep it that way – it happens a lot when I rewatch old movies I used to love.
But then this quote popped in my head the other day, completely out of the blue: good luck exploring the infinite abyss. I’m in a transitional time in my life, and as I sat there numb and confused for a while I heard the words in my head… good luck exploring the infinite abyss.
So I’ve decided to take this analogy and turn it into an adventurous mantra. The “abyss” sounds like a scary, intimidating place to be and I might feel misplaced at times, but I’m here. I’m here and I’m ready to make the most of it. In the words of Sia, I’m alive and I can do anything. Whenever I feel a little panicky about life and decisions these days I think of that little mantra and the concerns turn into possibilities to explore, and I don’t feel so overwhelmed anymore. Life is tough and the abyss is deep, but I’m alive! I can do anything.
What about you? Is there a mantra that you live by? I’d love to know!
