The One Minute Rule

If it takes only a minute, DO IT!

I’m on this long, long road to self discovery and productivity, and I’ve found an internet mentor that’s been guiding me through the process of becoming a happier person and living an intentional life: Gretchen Rubin.

And the journey begins with a very simple step: if it only takes a minute, do it.

I don’t know about you, but I have terrible procrastination tendencies and it’s scary how it can become a habit in your life. So I’ve been tackling the issue one minute at a time: instead of just dumping my clothes on a chair when I get home, I put them away. I don’t even give myself time to think about it. And that goes for everything: making my bed in the morning – literally one minute, turning off the light, take out the trash, reply to emails… it only takes about 60 seconds! Mind blowing, eh?

Suddenly you realize how much can be done in just a few minutes, and you become so aware of how much time you waste throughout the day – scary thought.

So this is it, I’ve been living by the one minute rule and it helps me feel less overwhelmed. And I get easily overwhelmed!! At the end of the day you don’t feel that anxiety-related procrastination, and boy does that feel great. May I say it’s even..liberating?
